The promise of peace

Peace I leave with you, my peace I give unto you:
not as the world giveth, give I unto you.
Let not your heart be troubled, neither let it be afraid.
John 14:27

Jesus’ promise of peace is as relevant today as it was when he first promised to lift us up from the conflict in the world around us. In the wake of the hatred and violence evidenced in the Orlando shootings, and the continuing threat of further violence, we need that peace to sustain us. We need it to comfort the sorrowing and we need it to strengthen us so we can face down evil and stop it in its tracks.

Tonight’s readings at our mid-week prayer meeting, beginning at 6 p.m., will explore the power and workings of this peace from God.
